Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the prevalence and neuropsychiatric comorbidity patterns of PPDs and psychophysiological disorders within a large, diverse population cohort.

Main Methods:

  • A nested case-control study utilized data from the All of Us research program.
  • Identified 984 patients with PPDs and 40,535 with psychophysiological disorders using ICD-10-CM codes.
  • Employed propensity score matching and multivariable logistic regression to analyze associations with neuropsychiatric comorbidities.

  • PPDs exhibited low prevalence (≤0.17%) but significantly higher odds of depressive (aOR 5.72-13.94), anxiety (aOR 5.96-8.40), and personality disorders (aOR 8.67-13.56).
  • Psychophysiological disorders had higher prevalence (0.14%-5.72%) with moderate associations with depressive (aOR 2.24-3.13), neurodevelopmental (aOR 1.20-2.36), and sleep-wake disorders (aOR 2.25-3.95).

Conclusions:

  • Distinct yet overlapping neuropsychiatric comorbidity profiles were observed between PPDs and psychophysiological disorders.
  • Findings highlight the need for individualized interventions addressing the complex psychosocial and biological factors of these conditions.
