  • Stage duration in treadmill exercise testing does not influence the exercise intensity at which maximal fat oxidation occurs.
  • The 2- and 3-minute stage protocols are largely interchangeable for assessing heart rate, oxygen uptake, and perceived exertion at maximal fat oxidation.
  • Protocol choice may impact fat oxidation measurements, suggesting careful consideration for specific research questions.
