Abstract:
Ultrasonography in medicine allows real-time assessment of the structure where the procedure occurs. This design feature could be more advantageous than radiological "snapshot "view imaging. Technically, the image resolution of endosonographic ultrasound is noticeably higher than that of transesophageal echocardiography and is recommended for use in the current guidelines regarding gastrointestinal tumor management, as it provides images of the highest possible resolution during local staging. The benefits of investigating cardiovascular tumors using high-resolution EUS are unknown. A 72-year-old woman presented with epigastric pain, nausea, and vomiting and a history of non-small-cell bronchial and right breast carcinoma. A multimodal imaging assessment including endosonographic ultrasound could clearly demonstrate direct malignant infiltration into the LV lateral wall. The introduction of high-resolution EUS into cardiology allows an accurate definition of cardiovascular anatomy and pathology, reduces double investigations for patients and operators, reduces the risk of esophageal trauma, highlights the benefits of interdisciplinary teamwork, and improves outcomes. Moreover, the precision of EUS in targeting organs and then inserting a needle into them could facilitate the development of EUS indications for cardiac-based interventions.
