  • To conduct a scoping review of EBP implementation models.
  • To map the strategies and outcomes associated with these EBP implementation models.

Main Methods:

  • A systematic scoping review methodology was employed.
  • Searched multiple databases (PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, etc.) for primary studies on EBP implementation in nursing.
  • Included studies using specific EBP models (ARCC, IOWA, Stetler, JHNEBP, PARIHS/i-PARIHS) and adhering to Proctor's taxonomy for outcomes and ERIC for strategies.

Main Results:

  • 26 articles were reviewed from 2244 retrieved.
  • PARiHS/i-PARIHS was the most frequently used model, followed by IOWA, ARCC, JHNEBP, and Stetler.
  • Most studies utilized "Use evaluative and iterative strategies" from the ERIC classification and reported 1-2 outcomes from Proctor's taxonomy.

Conclusions:

  • Underutilization of Proctor and ERIC taxonomies limits comprehensive mapping of EBP models.
  • Vague terminology and inconsistent descriptions of implementation strategies impede knowledge transfer.
  • Standardized reporting of EBP implementation efforts is needed to improve healthcare practices across settings.
