Mandibular condyle fractures are one of the most common fractures of the mandible, and management of these injuries is controversial. Classically, these patients underwent closed treatment. However, there has been a trend to perform open repair of these fractures given the recent research suggesting improved outcomes after open reduction internal fixation. In this comprehensive review, the authors review the initial evaluation, classification systems, treatment options, surgical approaches, and decision making when treating mandibular condylar fractures.
