Surgical emergencies can happen at any time and in any place. A review of the various types of emergencies and complications along with their evaluation and management in the outpatient setting is discussed. Included are examples of required and recommended equipment, technical considerations for procedural proficiency, and sample protocols for office staff to follow. Further reading for management of specific subspecialty or procedural complications is included elsewhere in this text.
