Abstract:
Dual tuned resonant air core transformers are used for the production of transient electromagnetic pulses for material studies, plasma physics, and RF propagation experiments, in which conventional magnetic core transformers may be inadequate. Not having core saturation and frequency limits are two of the most significant advantages of air core pulse transformers. Air core transformers provide the advantages of lower weights and simplified high voltage insulation. A dual tuned resonant air core transformer circuit is analyzed using the energy-based formulation of the Lagrangian as an alternative to Kirchhoff's voltage law. The results of the Lagrangian analysis are compared to the results of Kirchhoff's voltage law.
