Summary
Post-COVID-19 syndrome fatigue can be debilitating. Intravenous ketamine infusion showed significant improvement in a patient with refractory post-COVID-19 syndrome fatigue.
Area of Science:
- Neurology
- Infectious Diseases
- Pharmacology
Background:
- Post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS) presents diverse symptoms, with fatigue being the most prevalent and debilitating.
- Current therapeutic strategies for PCS fatigue remain limited, necessitating novel treatment approaches.
Observation:
- A case report details a patient experiencing persistent, treatment-resistant fatigue associated with PCS.
- The patient underwent intravenous ketamine infusion therapy.
Findings:
- Following ketamine infusion, the patient reported substantial amelioration of fatigue and enhanced energy levels.
- This suggests a potential efficacy of ketamine in managing refractory PCS fatigue.
Implications:
- Intravenous ketamine may represent a viable therapeutic option for patients suffering from debilitating PCS fatigue.
- Further research is warranted to explore ketamine's mechanism of action and long-term effects in PCS management.
