This study validated the Chinese version of the Job Embeddedness Scale (C-JES) for perioperative nurses in Taiwan. The C-JES is a reliable tool to assess job embeddedness and improve nurse retention.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Research
- Organizational Psychology
- Human Resource Management
Background:
- Job embeddedness is a key predictor of employee turnover.
- No validated instrument existed to measure job embeddedness among Taiwanese perioperative nurses.
- Understanding factors influencing nurse retention is critical in healthcare.
Purpose of the Study:
- To translate and validate the Job Embeddedness Scale (JES) for use in Taiwanese perioperative settings.
- To establish the reliability and construct validity of the Chinese version of the Job Embeddedness Scale (C-JES).
- To provide a tool for assessing job embeddedness to inform strategies for increasing nurse retention.
Main Methods:
- Cross-sectional study utilizing self-administered questionnaires.
- Forward and back-translation of the JES by bilingual translators and expert review for content validity.
- Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability analyses (Cronbach's alpha, ICC) on data from 344 perioperative nurses.
Main Results:
- The 31-item C-JES demonstrated acceptable model fit in CFA, supporting a six-factor structure.
- High content validity (CVI = 0.98) and strong correlation with the original JES (r = 0.98).
- Excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91) and good test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.82).
Conclusions:
- The C-JES is a valid and reliable instrument for measuring job embeddedness in Taiwanese perioperative nurses.
- The validated 31-item C-JES offers a concise yet comprehensive measure for research and practice.
- Findings support the application of C-JES in human resource management to enhance nurse retention and inform cross-cultural research on job embeddedness.
