Summary

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) reveals that amblyopic adults have inaccurate and unstable fixation. Fixation position error is a key predictor of visual acuity in amblyopia.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To extend OCT's application to evaluate fixation positional error and stability in adults with amblyopia.
  • To investigate the impact of lifelong fixation impairment on visual acuity in amblyopia.

  • Acquired 20 macular cube scans per eye using Cirrus HD-OCT in 30 amblyopes and 30 controls.
  • Determined foveal location using software to calculate positional error and fixation stability.
  • Measured crowded monocular distance visual acuity (VA).
