Abstract:
A novel zwitterionic poly (ionic liquid) hydrogel was constructed through the room-temperature in situ polymerization of acrylamide (Am), 3-(1-vinyl-3-imidazolio) propanesulfonate (ZILs), cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and lithium chloride (LiCl). The synergistic effects in the network (i.e., multiple-bond interactions, network constructed around rigid CNFs polymerization, and mild chemical cross-linking of the polymer chains) endowed the hydrogel with tensile strength (889 kPa), stretchability (1756 %), tear resistance (fracture energy 2.73 kJ/m2), and puncture toughness (4.76 MJ/m3). Furthermore, satisfactory conductivity (20.8 mS/cm), high sensitivity (gauge factor (GF) up to 15.31), excellent anti-freezing capability (-20 °C), and encouraging self-regeneration property were achieved by introducing LiCl with high hygroscopicity. The work provides a simple and effective strategy for functionalized copolymer hydrogel preparation by designing ionic liquid structures and incorporating natural nanomaterials to expand their practical applications in flexible sensors.
