A 3D-printed model of axillary cavernous hemangioma

Cavernous hemangioma is a benign hamartomatous proliferation of endothelial tissues that is found most frequently in the central nervous system. Extremity involvement is uncommon, and axillary involvement is particularly rare. We present the case of a 43-year-old man with a 2-year history of enlarging axillary mass. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a peripherally enhancing lesion medial to the brachial vein and close to the medial brachial cutaneous nerve. A 3D-printed model was created based on magnetic resonance imaging, which elucidated the spatial relationship between the mass and surrounding structures. The mass was resected and pathology revealed a cavernous hemangioma. Here we discuss the utility of 3D modeling of a rare tumor.
