Mouse Embryonic Lung Culture, A System to Evaluate the Molecular Mechanisms of Branching

Abstract:
Although there is much yet to be learned about the regulation of fetal lung maturation, the study of this process has yielded much information that may serve as a paradigm for the understanding of fetal growth regulation in general. Two particularly interesting fetal adjustments of general regulatory phenomena have emerged: the ability of local tissue metabolism to anatomically or temporally isolate endocrine effects and the role of paracrine factors in coordinating the responses of different cells in complex organs.

Role Of Notch Signalling In Intestinal Stem Cell Renewal
Direct cell-to-cell contact is needed for the activation of Notch signaling. The signal is initiated when a notch ligand binds to a receptor on an adjacent cell, also...

Alveolar Surface Tension
The alveolar fluid lines the luminal surface of the alveoli and exerts a force called surface tension. This force is caused by the polar water molecules in the liquid being more strongly attracted to each...
