Summary

This study found that elevated levels of Interleukin-20 (IL-20), Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), and Signaling lymphocytic activation molecule (SLAM) are associated with an increased risk of rotator cuff tears. These inflammatory proteins may play a role in tear development.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the causal relationship between circulating inflammatory proteins and the risk of rotator cuff tears using a Mendelian randomization approach.

Main Methods:

  • A two-sample Mendelian randomization study was conducted.
  • Genetic variants associated with 91 circulating inflammatory proteins were analyzed in 14,824 European participants.
  • Inverse variance weighting (IVW) was the primary analysis method, with MR-Egger and weighted median approaches used for validation.
