Hallux valgus deformity, often referred to as a bunion, is one of the most common foot and ankle disorders affecting roughly about 23% of adults aged 18 to 65 years. Several different surgical techniques have been previously described in the correction of severe hallux valgus deformity. More recently, minimally invasive surgery has become increasingly popular primarily due to a growing body of evidence demonstrating shorter recovery times including earlier weight-bearing progression, less post-operative pain needs, and improved cosmesis with similar positive outcomes as open procedures. The scope of this technical review centers on the minimally invasive Lapidus procedure.
