Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate the Medical Device-Related Pressure Injury Risk Assessment Scale (MDRPI Scale).
  • To establish the reliability and validity of the MDRPI Scale for assessing MDRPI risk.
  • To provide a tool for healthcare professionals to proactively manage MDRPI risk.

  • A methodological design was used to develop and evaluate the MDRPI Scale.
  • 200 patients using medical devices were included in the study.
  • Data were collected using the MDRPI Scale, Braden Scale, and patient demographic forms, followed by validity and reliability analyses.

  • The MDRPI Scale demonstrated a content validity index of 0.87 and a Cronbach α of 0.73.
  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis supported a 2-factor structure (General Patient Condition, Medical Device Effect), explaining 47.063% of the variance.

Conclusions:

  • The MDRPI Scale is the first comprehensive tool specifically designed to identify MDRPI risk.
  • The 8-item, 2-factor MDRPI Scale is a valid and reliable instrument for clinical settings.
  • This scale aids in evaluating skin and mucosa integrity in patients using medical devices, facilitating risk management.
