Summary

Iatrogenic ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a rare complication of premature ventricular complex (PVC) ablation. Percutaneous closure offers a safe and effective treatment alternative for patients with high surgical risk.

  • A 77-year-old woman developed worsening heart failure symptoms post-radiofrequency ablation for parahisian PVCs.
  • Multimodal imaging revealed a significant iatrogenic muscular VSD at the ablation site.

  • Delayed percutaneous closure of the VSD using an Amplatzer occluder was successfully performed.
  • The patient experienced complete resolution of heart failure symptoms post-procedure.

Implications:

  • Careful patient selection and procedural planning are essential for PVC ablation.
  • Multimodality imaging aids in diagnosing and managing iatrogenic VSD.
  • Percutaneous closure is a viable and effective alternative to surgical intervention for iatrogenic VSD.
