Toxic factors limiting the use of anticancer agents

Anticancer agents are administered at toxic doses to achieve maximum tumor cell kill. In addition to rapidly proliferating tissues such as bone marrow, the subsequent toxicities may involve the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys and other organs. Exploration of noncytotoxic mechanisms of anticancer activity may provide safer cancer chemotherapy.
