Summary

Virtual group Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) successfully delivered better tinnitus coping and quality of life for Veterans. Most Veterans recommended the virtual PTM services and showed interest in text message support.

Background:

Tinnitus significantly impacts Veterans' quality of life.
Traditional in-person tinnitus management may present accessibility challenges.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the delivery and outcomes of virtual group Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) for Veterans.
To assess the effectiveness of telehealth-delivered PTM services.

Main Methods:

Virtual group PTM was delivered via VA Video Connect (VVC) platform.
Data collected from FYs 2022-2024 using the Tinnitus Workshop Follow-Up form.
Outcome measures included strategy use, tinnitus control, coping, quality of life, and recommendation rates.

Main Results:

80% of Veterans utilized all four PTM coping strategies.
Significant improvements reported in tinnitus control (68%), coping (68%), quality of life (67%), and reduced tinnitus bothersomeness (60%).
93% recommended the virtual PTM workshops to other Veterans.

Conclusions:

Virtual group PTM is an effective modality for improving tinnitus management and quality of life in Veterans.
The VVC platform facilitates successful delivery of clinical tele-audiology services.
Veterans are receptive to supplementary text message support for tinnitus care plans.
