Over the years, numerous initiatives have emerged to establish secure institutional clinical data repositories and interconnect them among organizations, driven by the increasing need for both intra- and inter-institutional patient data to support research endeavors. These efforts are essential for advancing scientific discoveries, improving patient outcomes, and enabling large-scale studies that rely on diverse and comprehensive datasets. In Puerto Rico (PR), a significant gap exists in the availability of a centralized clinical data resource, as well as in the capacity to share this information with researchers worldwide. Addressing this gap presents an opportunity to position PR as a leader in the integration and utilization of electronic health record (EHR) data for research and collaboration on a global scale.
