Benzylamine cation-directed introduction of a polar structure in a stator-rotor crown ether system

Abstract:
By modulating halogen substituents, two novel three-component crown ether complexes: [(3-chloro-2-fluorobenzylamine)(15-crown-5)][ClO4] (1) and [(2,3-difluorobenzylamine)(15-crown-5)][ClO4] (2) were prepared, in which 1 exhibits a 90 K higher phase transition temperature than 2, with switchable second harmonic generation (SHG) effects and ferroelectricity.
