How I Do It: A Growth Mindset Workshop for Surgical Trainees

Growth mindset has recently been gaining attention among surgical educators, but there are limited data on mindset interventions in medical education. This paper describes the design and implementation of a growth mindset workshop for surgical interns.

We followed a systematic approach to curriculum development. The workshop content was based on adult learning theory and experimental research on other mindset interventions.

2 large academic general surgery residency programs.

70 incoming surgical interns.

The 90-minute workshop includes videos, reflection exercises, role plays, and group discussions. All instructional materials are publicly available or provided as part of this manuscript.
