Objectives:
To outline our technique for functional endoscopic brow lifts and report on the outcomes of endoscopic brow lifts completed over an 8-year period.
Methods:
Retrospective chart review was performed at Massachusetts Eye and Ear for patients who underwent an endoscopic brow lift between January 2016 and December 2023. Primary outcomes included the incidence of complications and changes in brow height. Brow heights were evaluated using free image processing software (ImageJ version 1.53) and included measurements from the interpupillary line to the superior border of both brows at multiple positions.
Results:
Three hundred and twelve endoscopic brow lifts were performed on a predominantly female (79.3%) population with a mean age of 64. The complication rate was 0.6% (n = 2), including an instance of capsule formation around a dissolved Ultratine device and ear blister formation. The revision rate during the study period was 1.9% (n = 6). Photographic analysis on 113 cases revealed an average increase of 2-3 mm in the medial, central, and lateral brow bilaterally (p ≤ 0.0002). There was no change in the inter-brow distance (p = 0.885).
Conclusion:
Endoscopic brow lifts can reliably achieve significant improvements in medial, central, and lateral brow positions with a minimal risk profile and a revision rate comparable to that of direct techniques.
