Objective:
This study aimed to describe the health education needs for mobile health (mHealth) in older adults with declines in intrinsic capacity (IC).
Methods:
Semi-structured in-person interviews were conducted among older adults diagnosed with declining in IC and who lived in community in Xinjiang, China between July 2023 and September 2023. The theoretical framework of this study is phenomenological research and content analysis of qualitative research.
Results:
A total of 10 older adults with declines in IC were recruited in this study. Five themes and 17 subthemes were organized. The five themes were willingness to use, content needs, knowledge production needs, functionality and design needs, and hindering factors.
Conclusions:
Before utilizing mHealth for education of the older adults with declines in IC, we should fully understand their needs for educational content, form, function, and design. This will enhance the effectiveness of health education using mHealth.
