Abstract:
Extraoral systems for axiopantographic analysis require the attachment of active or passive sensors to the mandibular teeth via a paraocclusal clutch or similar tool. A compromised anterior mandibular dentition might prevent the secure attachment of the clutch, and contact of the clutch against the maxillary teeth might alter the mandibular movements, resulting in tracings of poor quality. The manufacture of the individualized paraocclusal clutch fixator, consisting of a thermoplastic mask fitting the patient's mandibular teeth and leaving the dental occlusal surfaces uncovered, is described. In the laboratory, the clutch is glued to the aligner, and the coupled aligner-clutch unit is worn on the patient's mandibular teeth during the axiographic examination. The use of an individualized paraocclusal clutch fixator enables a secure and collision-free fastening of the clutch. By reducing the risk of clutch detachment and tracing inaccuracies, the individualized paraocclusal clutch fixator helps optimize examination time, with advantages for both clinician and patient.
