Abstract:
Three novel triterpenoids, yatiaroic acids A-C (1-3) with an unprecedented seco-serratane skeleton were isolated from branches of Myrica gale var. tomentosa. The relative and absolute stereochemistry of 1-3 were determined on the basis of the 2D NMR data, chemical transformation, and CD calculation.

IUPAC Nomenclature of Carboxylic Acids
For acyclic saturated monocarboxylic acids, the longest hydrocarbon chain containing the –COOH carbon is identified as the parent chain. Then, the last -e of the parent hydrocarbon name is replaced with a suffix -oic acid.
