Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Anesthesia Nursing
- Clinical Competence
Background:
- Clinical competence in detecting complications is vital for Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) anesthesia nurses.
- Specialized nursing roles require defined core competency-based learning objectives.
- A practical and implementable training program is needed for PACU anesthesia nurses.
Purpose of the Study:
- To identify essential core competency-based learning objectives for anesthesia nurses in the PACU.
- To develop a practical and implementable training program for this specialized nursing role.
- To define appropriate pedagogical approaches and training duration.
Main Methods:
- A qualitative study employing a two-round Delphi method.
- Involved 50 faculty members and clinical anesthesia instructors in Iran.
- Utilized a 5-point Likert scale for objective assessment and descriptive statistics for analysis.
Main Results:
- Consensus was reached on 95 core learning objectives by 37 participants (74% response rate).
- Specific teaching methods were selected to achieve the identified learning objectives.
- The training program was proposed to consist of 10 sessions (15 hours).
Conclusions:
- A supplementary training program for PACU care was developed using the Delphi method.
- The program aims to enhance the clinical competence of anesthesia nurses.
- This initiative addresses the need for specialized training in PACU anesthesia nursing.
