Slit-lamp biomicroscopy using a 90-diopter (90D) lens is a standard technique employed by ophthalmologists for detailed evaluation of the posterior segment. However, this skill has a steep learning curve, and it takes time before the clinician gets hold of it, especially in the initial days of residency. In a country like India, characterized by a substantial patient burden and extended waiting times where the healthcare system faces considerable strain, we created a learning tool for new residents to learn fundus examination on slit lamp with 90D lens. We developed a 3D-printed eyeball which is optically similar to the human eye and aids students in grasping this skill at a faster rate. This model is incorporated by a retina film which can be changed, and a beginner in ophthalmology can view both normal and pathological fundi. It enables trainees to simulate the optical and procedural aspects of performing a 90D fundus examination in a controlled, risk-free environment.
