Background:

Vicarious resilience is a positive psychological transformation observed in hospital nurses.
It arises from witnessing patients' recovery and strength, fostering personal growth.

Purpose of the Study:

To clarify the concept of vicarious resilience using Walker and Avant's concept clarification method.
To identify defining attributes, antecedents, and consequences for theory and practice.

Main Methods:

Systematic review of 21 studies from Korean and international databases.
Analysis through eight steps to identify concept characteristics.

Main Results:

Four defining attributes: emotional growth, meaning-making, patient-centered engagement, professional identity reinforcement.
Key antecedents: empathic exposure, reflective capacity. Consequences: enhanced resilience, reduced burnout, increased job satisfaction, sustainable caregiving.
Vicarious resilience is distinct from compassion satisfaction and post-traumatic growth, originating from patient recovery experiences.
