Patients with metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus show more carotid artery abnormalities than those with metabolic syndrome alone. Early screening of carotid rheological parameters is crucial for preventing cerebrovascular disease.

- Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition that affects how your body turns food into energy.

Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the rheological parameters of carotid arteries in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS) with and without diabetes mellitus (DM).
- To determine the frequency of abnormal rheological values in these patient groups.
- To assess the association between MetS, DM, and carotid artery disease.
Main Methods:
- The study included 90 subjects divided into two equal groups: MetS without DM and MetS with DM.
- Peak systolic velocity (PSV) was used as a reference for pathological rheological parameters.
- Carotid artery rheological parameters were analyzed using Doppler ultrasound.

- The MetS + DM group exhibited a higher incidence of pathological rheological parameters compared to the MetS-only group.
- Pathological PSV values were observed in the right internal carotid artery (ICA) in 12 patients within the MetS + DM group.
- Total flow obstruction in the left ICA and severe narrowing of the right ICA were noted in one patient with MetS + DM, indicating significant carotid artery disease.

- The frequency of carotid rheological abnormalities is significantly higher in patients with both MetS and DM.
- Internal carotid arteries (ICA) were more susceptible to pathological changes.
- Screening rheological parameters in MetS patients is vital for preventing cerebrovascular disease.
