Comparing periodic functions in cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) can be biased by traditional resolution shell definitions. A new method using inverse cubic resolution scales creates balanced shells, improving statistical comparisons and potentially making Fourier shell correlation (FSC) analysis more robust.
