Abstract:
Nutrition can influence early brain development during a critical window of opportunity and plays a fundamental role in shaping neurodevelopmental outcomes, particularly in preterm infants. Essential nutrients support brain growth and key maturational processes, while the microbiota-gut-brain axis influences neuronal development through immune and metabolic pathways. Human milk, rich in bioactive components, enhances brain maturation, reducing the risk of cognitive and motor deficits. Optimizing early nutrition, especially through breastfeeding, can notably improve long-term neurodevelopment. This article explores the interplay between nutrition, gut microbiota, and early brain development, emphasizing its importance in shaping future effective interventions to support early brain health.
