Four new polyynes and sesquiterpenoids from Atractylodes chinensis

A systematic phytochemical study was carried out on the ethanol extract of the dried rhizomes of Atractylodes chinensis. Eleven compounds were successfully isolated, including two new polyyne compounds atractylodes A (1) and B (2), two new sesquiterpenoid ones atractylodes C (3) and D (4), and seven known ones (5-11). All the compounds were determined by high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. In vitro, anti-tumor activity experiments showed that compounds 3 and 4 exhibited remarkable cytotoxic activities against human gastric cancer cells (SGC-7901) with IC₅₀ values of 8.32 ± 1.38 μM and 19.78 ± 1.69 μM, respectively.
