Abstract:
The role of prostatic stents has evolved in managing lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia. Early designs faced challenges such as migration, encrustation, and complications, limiting their long-term success. Advances in material composition and stents structural designs have improved durability, biocompatibility, and patient outcomes. Modern stents, both temporary and permanent, offer a minimally invasive alternative for select patients. While challenges remain, including patient selection and long-term efficacy, ongoing research aims to optimize these devices, ensuring they provide effective symptom relief with reduced procedural burden.
