MEDICAL CARE ORGANIZATION FOR INCARCERATED PATIENTS. The law of 1994 January 18, transferred the responsibility of organizing prison care from the justice system to the health sector. Since then, multi-disciplinary hospital teams have been taking charge of people during their detention, after a health check-up on arrival. It's a diverse, multi-faceted practice that focuses on caring for people who are initially vulnerable, often anxious, ill or neglected. Prison carers are committed to applying the founding principles of medicine, such as respect for medical confidentiality and equal access to care for all.
