Abstract:
EPIDEMIOLOGY OF ASTHMA IN ADULTS IN France. Asthma remains a common chronic respiratory disease in adults. The prevalence of current asthma is estimated at 6.1% with a higher prevalence in women (7.4%) versus 5.3% in men. Asthma is often associated with comorbidities. Despite the availability of effective treatments, asthma remains poorly controlled in about 50% of cases with significant care in terms of exacerbations, emergency room visits and hospitalizations. The burden of the disease remains very high for patients with severe asthma, about 5% of asthma patients.

Asthma: Pathogenesis and Management
Asthma is classified as allergic and non-allergic. Allergens such as dust mites, pollen, and pet dander trigger allergic asthma, while factors like cold air, intense emotions, or exercise can induce non-allergic asthma.
