Abstract:
BIOLOGIC THERAPIES IN ADULT ASTHMA. The range of therapeutic options for asthma has greatly expanded in recent times, particularly with the advent of biologic therapies. These cutting-edge treatments are specifically designed for patients suffering from severe, treatment-resistant asthma, even when all contributing factors are optimally managed. In France, there are now five available biologic therapies, each utilizing monoclonal antibodies that specifically target crucial components of the T2-type inflammatory pathways in the respiratory system. Clinical trials and real-world studies have validated their effectiveness, demonstrating a reduction in the frequency of exacerbations, a decreased need for oral corticosteroids, and improvements in asthma symptoms, respiratory function, and overall quality of life. Additionally, these treatments are generally well-tolerated. The effectiveness of biologic therapies hinges on a personalized approach to treatment, necessitating detailed and accurate phenotyping of patients to identify the most appropriate biologic therapy for each individual case..
