A new electron-enriched platinum-nickel-cobalt (PtNiCo) catalyst on a titanium nitride (TiN) support significantly improves methanol fuel cell stability. This advanced catalyst overcomes both carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and metal dissolution issues.
Area of Science:
- Electrochemistry
- Materials Science
- Catalysis
Background:
- Methanol fuel cells (MFCs) are promising clean energy sources.
- Catalyst stability, particularly resistance to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and metal dissolution, remains a key challenge for widespread MFC adoption.
- Platinum-based catalysts are widely used but suffer from degradation.
