In vitro Comparison of Soft-Tissue Grafting Materials for Periodontal Surgery: A Systematic Review

Abstract:
This systematic review was done to examine in vitro research that evaluates the features of different soft tissue grafting materials in periodontal surgery. The search was conducted using the terms "soft tissue grafts," "periodontal surgery," "efficacy," "growth factor," and "cell viability". Out of the 590 publications analyzed from 2010 to 2024, only 5 were chosen and included in the calculations based on their publication year. All things considered, in periodontal surgery acellular dermal matrix (ADM), platelet derivatives, and collagen matrices offer efficient substitutes for autogenous grafts that minimize donor-site morbidity and improve patient comfort. Though in some uses like root covering or soft tissue augmentation these materials produce similar outcomes, their usefulness varies depending on the clinical setting.
