Introduction:
Furcation involvement, being one of the most common complications of periodontal disease, is managed by a variety of materials, including autografts, allografts, xenografts, and barrier membranes. The bioactive glass ceramic bone graft PerioGlas exhibits both osteoconductive and biointeractive qualities, and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) may facilitate the healing of both soft and hard tissues. Objective: The purpose of this clinical study was to compare the results of PRF alone and PRF with PerioGlas in mandibular Grade II furcation defects.
Methods:
Ten patients with bilateral mandibular molar furcations participated in a split-mouth study, which evaluated radiographic and clinical parameters at baseline, three months, and six months.
Results:
At six months, both groups had significantly improved, with PRF + PerioGlas producing more bone fill and a smaller defect.
Conclusion:
PRF works well on a standalone basis, but when combined with PerioGlas, it offers better regenerative results in Grade II furcation defects.
