Driver's licensure remains an important milestone for many adolescents and can contribute to their social, educational, and employment-related growth. Nevertheless, motor vehicle crashes remain one of the top causes of injury, disability, and death in US teens. Clinicians can play important roles ensuring that each teen's unique medical and developmental concerns are considered when assessing readiness to drive. Pediatric clinicians can work with parents to help support the crucial role of driving experience, under the protections of a graduated licensing system, as the most important strategy to protect novice drivers.
