Purpose of the Study:

  • To histologically assess short-term responses to four bioactive materials used in direct pulp capping.
  • To compare pulpal inflammation and dentinal bridge formation among Neo MTA Plus, Neo Putty, Total Fill BC Fast set putty, and Total Fill BC RRM Paste.

Main Methods:

  • Thirty-two intact premolars from orthodontic patients were used.
  • Teeth were randomly assigned to four DPC material groups (NMP, NP, FSP, BCP).
  • Histological evaluation of pulpal inflammation intensity and dentinal bridge continuity was performed after four weeks.

Main Results:

  • Significant differences in pulpal inflammation intensity (PII) were observed (p=0.001), with Neo MTA Plus showing the lowest PII.
  • Significant differences in dentinal bridge continuity (DBC) were found (p<0.001).
  • Neo MTA Plus exhibited the lowest DBC, while Total Fill BC Fast set putty demonstrated the highest DBC.

Conclusions:

  • Neo MTA Plus demonstrated the lowest pulpal inflammation but inferior dentinal bridge continuity.
  • Total Fill BC Fast set putty showed superior dentinal bridge continuity in short-term histological evaluation.
  • Material selection for direct pulp capping impacts both pulpal response and hard tissue regeneration.
