Abstract:
In recent years, there have been significant advancements in both respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and pneumococcal vaccines for older adults. New RSV vaccines have demonstrated efficacy in preventing serious respiratory infections while pneumococcal conjugate vaccines have expanded to cover more serotypes, particularly those causing disease in older adults. Efforts to refine vaccines, extend long-term efficacy, and assess cost-effectiveness are ongoing. This article addresses the history, safety, efficacy, challenges, and future directions of both RSV and pneumococcal vaccines. We also provide a concise summary of current recommendations for their use to serve as a reference for health care providers.
