Abstract:
The unique conformational properties of four-membered carbocycles (cyclobutanes and cyclobutenes) have attracted attention in drug design. Meanwhile, fluorine and various fluorine-containing groups are essential substituents in the development of biologically active agents. The combination of the four-membered carbocycle with fluorinated motifs represents a promising approach. This review focuses on synthetic methods for four-membered carbocycles bearing some emerging fluorine-containing substituents, particularly fluoroalkyl, and sulfur-linked fluorinated functionalities.
