Abstract:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is reported in 43% to 60% of patients following peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).1 Additionally, over one-third of patients develop new preobesity, obesity, or morbid obesity after POEM.2 Although obesity is a risk factor for GERD,3 past studies show mixed results on the association between preprocedural obesity and development of post-POEM GERD.4,5 Beyond baseline obesity, the effect of change in weight following POEM on GERD is not well-understood. Thus, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between change in weight and development of post-POEM GERD over 12 months of follow-up.
