Summary

Acupuncture combined with exercise shows promise for treating sarcopenia, an age-related muscle loss condition. This study aims to provide robust evidence for acupuncture as an effective adjuvant therapy for sarcopenia.

Background:

Sarcopenia is a progressive age-related loss of muscle strength and mass, significantly impacting older adults' quality of life and safety.
The global aging population is driving an increase in sarcopenia incidence, presenting a major public health concern.
While preclinical studies suggest acupuncture's efficacy, robust clinical trials for sarcopenia are lacking, particularly those with sham controls and multicenter designs.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the efficacy of acupuncture as an adjuvant therapy for sarcopenia.
To provide robust evidence through a well-designed randomized controlled trial.
To establish a comprehensive assessment framework for sarcopenia.

Main Methods:

A multicenter randomized controlled trial integrating acupuncture with exercise therapy.
Inclusion of a control group receiving sham acupuncture alongside exercise to mitigate placebo effects.
Utilization of a comprehensive and validated set of outcome measures for rigorous assessment.
