The History of Dermatologic Surgical Body Sculpting in the New Millennium

In the year 2000, Dermatologic Surgery featured a series of Millennial Articles which reviewed the many contributions of this journal to our field. "The History of Liposuction" appropriately focused on the evolution of this groundbreaking technique.

Now, as we celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Journal, the field of body sculpting has expanded well-beyond traditional liposuction. Many of those advances were first revealed in research articles published here.

A review of all articles published in Dermatologic Surgery from 2000 to 2025 was conducted using search criteria such as "liposuction," "fat transplantation," "cryolipolysis," "cellulite," and similar terms.

The most important articles on body contouring in the recent dermatologic surgery literature were compiled to use for reporting notable advances in the field.

Dermatologic Surgery continues to be a leading resource for research in body contouring.
