Statement Of Problem:
Dynamic navigation (DN) has been widely used to place dental implants in partially edentulous arches. However, its use in completely edentulous arches is limited. The reliability of DN for improved positional accuracy in completely edentulous patients needs to be established.
Purpose:
The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the accuracy of DN for implant placements in completely edentulous patients.
Material And Methods:
A systematic search was conducted in 3 electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane. Clinical studies evaluating the positional accuracy of DN in edentulous arches were included.
Results:
Of the 22 full-text articles reviewed, 6 studies met the eligibility criteria. Among these studies were 2 nonrandomized clinical trials, 2 cohort studies, and 2 case series. A high risk of bias was noted in 1 of the studies, while low to moderate risk of bias was observed in the other studies. In DN-based implant placements, the average accuracy of 0.98 mm (CI: 0.64-1.32) at the global platform, 1.06 mm (CI: 0.74-1.39) at the global apex, and an angular deviation of 3.11degrees (CI: 1.98-4.23) were noted.
Conclusions:
Based on the results of the analysis, it is concluded that DN is a promising emergent technology for accurately placing implants in complex and completely edentulous patients. Further research is needed to evaluate the role of confounding variables and reporting clinical implications in patient-centered outcomes.
