Summary

Bilateral sensory stimulation (BLS), used in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), increases frontal EEG activity and reduces physiological arousal. These effects occur regardless of stimulation type or emotional content, suggesting a core mechanism for psychological recovery.

Background:
