Laparoscopic Sacrocolpopexy as an Effective Treatment for Late Sigmoid Neovagina Prolapse with Colonic Polyps

Several case report publications of sigmoid neo vagina prolapse highlight the techniques and challenges of both primary and recurrence repairs. The various prolapse surgery repair approaches include mesh and nonmesh sacrocolpopexy, paravaginal repair, and mesh and nonmesh sacrospinous ligament fixation, among others. A combination of techniques with a multidisciplinary input where feasible can help to overcome any difficulties. Although there exists no consensus on the most effective repair technique, mesh sacrocolpopexy is commonly applied and has the best nonrecurrence rates. Possible factors that may contribute to recurrence after primary repair include functional elongation of the neovagina during sexual activity and the need to spare the vascular pedicle during prolapse repair surgery. We therefore illustrate a laparoscopic mesh repair approach to reconstructing a late sigmoid neovagina prolapse after sigmoid colon vaginoplasty.
